Maisie Dobbs entered domestic service in 1910 at thirteen, working for Lady Rowan Compton. Maisie hurriedly investigates, uncovering a disturbing mystery, which, in an astonishing denouement, gives Maisie the courage to confront a ghost that has haunted her for years.
